When I walked into the gym at MUS and looked at the score, I thought maybe there was an error on the scoreboard. 42-19, that’s right and the Tigers were not leading. The Owls had a convincing lead but Coach Tippett put in the bench and their 23 point lead dwindled down to 12 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Buckner made an impressive crossover right to left and the bucket to make the score, 51-39. ECS became very patient on offense with Micah Givens scoring after his team had moved the ball around crisply, giving his team at 56-39 lead and the closest the Tigers would get to them. The final score, 66-43, ECS. Senior John Mileski led his team in scoring with 17. Teammate Terrance Stringfellow played a nice game with 12 points and 12 rebounds.”It feels great, we haven’t had any good wins and we knew that the first team to wake up would win” said Mileskie. Stringfellow who was the game Mvp said, “We had a tough game and it feels good to win”.Good luck to them as they head off to Deshler Alabama for a Holiday Tournament this next weekend.
CBHSvsMelrose
Down by 11 to start the 4th quarter, Coach Luckett of the Purple Wave needed something to go his team’s way and he got it. The Golden Wildcats would score 2 points up until the 2:36 mark of the 4th giving his team a chance to punch holes in the Golden Wildcat lead. Senior Dominic Fragale would get it going scoring on a 3 point play and getting a steal to make the score, 43-40 with 2:00 remaining. Drew Barham of CBHS would rebound a Frankie Bougher miss to keep the score close, 45-42 but his teammate wanted to get the win. Fragale would get another tough 2 off the glass to cut the lead to 1, 45-44 with 21 seconds left. Melrose would turn it over due to a pass out of bound giving CBHS one last chance. The hero of the 4th quarter would be called upon and the shot would go up, but not fall, giving Melrose a win and headache for Coach Jermaine Johnson. Chris Jones led all scorers with 18 points. Barham had 14 for his team.

Ridgeway vs MUS The Roadrunners down a player with Cordario Macklin being out with an injury took on a MUS team looking for a big win but it would be hard with their lack of size against, 6’6, 6’7 and 6’8. Ridgeway could not shake the Owls as they found themselves only up 5, 38-33 in 4th quarter. Football star Barry Brunetti would find Dylan Cunningham open for a lay up, 44-38 but that would be as close as they would get. They had opportunities but they missed free throws and found themselves down 11, on a Marterrance Brock dunk. The final, 51-40. Tarik Black had 14 points and was named the Mvp of the game. Taylor Reed of MUS had 13.

Never Say Never: Chiefs Win
36-13 Second Half Run Gives Craigmont Comeback Win
Their was the Young Life Classic at MUS with several teams playing in that event but the most talked about game of the day was played off of Covington Pike as the White Station Spartans took on the home team, the Craigmont Chiefs. The Chiefs have been playing great basketball of late winning the Wave Holiday Classic and boosting their record to 9-1 but some people had critical of Craigmon’t success due to their level of competition and in the first half , that criticism looked to be right on.
Terrance Durham and Desmond Thompson
The Spartans looked very impressive able to withstand Craigmont’s pressure full court and score on easy lay ups going on an 8-0 run at the 4:23 mark of the second quarter to make the score, 24-18 on a Andre Hollins baseline drive. Craigmont would have opportunities but poor foul shooting and errant shots allowed them to score only 5 more points in the quarter, as White Station but a 17 point halftime lead, 40-23. Things didn’t get any better early in the 3rd as Hollins got a bucket and the foul to put his team up 21, 45-24. Terrance Durham and senior Desmond Thompson both tried to keep their team in the game, getting the lead to 15 but there was Hollins again with a tough rebound and a score and another basket to put White Station back up by 20, 57-37. To top things off, Zach Jones a Ut Martin would slip and appear to hurt his hamstring in the quarter. Cedric Mcafee would start the 4th off with a trey and lay up to cut the lead once again 62-46, but the Chiefs would get another bad break with Mcafee picking up his 5th and final foul after appearing to come alive in the final quarter. A few fans started to talk about boring the game would be after the Spartans got into the double bonus with 5:00 remaining still remaining in the game but what they didn’t know was the exciting finish to come.

Thompson’s 3 cut it to and 11 point game, the Chiefs got a steal, Durham a lay-up and now the game was in the single digits for the first time since the first quarter. Craigmon’t pressure seemed to rattle the Spartans as the Chiefs would get another steal with Durham this time getting the basket plus the foul to make the score, 69-63. Senior guard Patrick Coleman of White Station would be called for a charge call with 3:09 left giving the Chiefs 2 more points for a 69-65 Spartan lead with 2:40 left in the game. Joe Jackson would score on a lay-in and hit one free throw but the once hurt Jones would hurt the Spartans with a 3-pointer, to make it 72-68 with 1:58 left. The next 40 seconds of this game may have been the most exciting thus far this season. Julian Burton would be fouled after grabbing a big rebound but he would miss both free throws allowing Durham to push it up the floor and find Thompson for an uncontested 3, which he calmly sank with 14.7 left. The Spartans would call timeout giving them the ball with one last possession. The Chiefs would press again, forcing Jackson to hurry a bit and force a shot that missed of the left side of the rim giving Durham a chance to fly down the court and attempt a left handed lay in over Ferrakhan Hall which missed but their was Thompson flying in with the tip and the biggest shot of his life and the Chiefs, the best come from behind victory of this season,75-73
Durham said,” I didn’t know if we would catch up but Coach told us to keep fighting, we come to far to lose” “ I was just trying to get my hand in there some where” said Thompson on the games final bucket.” We give all the thanks to God”. Durham led his team with 25 points with Thompson getting 15 points with several of those points being when his team needed them most. Hollins had 25 for the Spartans with Ferrakhan Hall scoring 19 points. The win moves Craigmont to 10-1 and a major move in the team rankings this upcoming week.
