How Sweet It Is
Chiefs Win The City Championship
By Charles Lawson
All the wins, accolades and individual awards meant nothing to the Craigmont Chiefs as they went into Wednesday to win the Middle School City Championship on their home floor.
Robert Houston MVP
What was supposed to be a very contested game against the Ridgeway Roadrunners turned ugly and ugly fast as Craigmont jumped out 16-0 on the very nervous and somewhat intimidated Roadrunners. The Chiefs trapping defense and attacking offense led to a 52-28 lead in the 3rd in front of the standing room only crowd. Craigmont just seemed to be a team of destiny scoring whenever they wanted to building an almost 30 point lead at one point. Ridgeway had a great year getting to the city championship but the Chiefs did what they did to opponents all year, beat them. The final score, 71-47 for your 2007-2008 city champs, the Craigmont Chiefs.
Cutting down the nets, 'one shining moment.'
Craigmont's big 3 combined for 49 points with Blake Johnson scoring 20 points and Robert Houston doing what he does with 17. Cameron Golden also played well with 12 points. Markell Morgan had 10 points for the Roadrunners. Cameron Golden has one thing to say to those teams that they may face, " Better come hard because we a team and no one can beat us." The city championship is alright but we got one more championship and that the state". Congratulations Chiefs and good luck in the sectional on Saturday.
