The Memphis Pacers are loaded and can compete and probably beat most teams in the state but you just had to feel for the young 15's(Memphis Select). Treadwell's Cedric Mcafee didn't seem affected as the shooter connected on five 3-pointers in the 1st half but their was one problem, they were still playing up against probably one of the most talented aau teams other than the Yomca(17's) in the city. The Pacers got the W, 93-68.
Team Idlewild played the Memphis Trotters in a very low scoring game. 6'5 Victor Shell made the play of the game dunking over a Trottter player but nothing seemed to jumpstart each team. MUS Sophmore Barry Brunetti impressed with physical play from the guard position and ability to get to rim at will. Idlewild got the win over the Trotters who were without Twann Oakley and Tramacus Toney, 48-40.
The 15 year old Memphis Stallions played the Select(17's) in a clear mismatch. The Stallions played with pretty much all guards and going against a team with 6'6 and 6'5 and 6'4 in the starting line-up and what do you have, a Select win, 71-47. Chris Crawford showed his shooting ability with a barage of threes at the end of the game.

Memphis Select Boys Classic
The Memphis Select Boys Classic was held this weekend at Trezevant and Lemoyne-Owen College this weekend with 2 different age groups taking it to the hardwood with the 15's and 17's doing battle. The tourney was all Memphis teams with the exception of 1, the Birmingham Storm featuring a top 5 player in the country. Demarcus CousinS showed why he's a consensus top 3 player in the 2009 class. The 6'10 center looked as good as advertised with block after block and dunk after dunk but in a surprising upset, his team was defeated by the Memphis Select 17's team on Saturday night. Trust me, you will be seeing Cousins in the NBA in about 3 years. As in each AAU event that 901PrepScoop covers, a synopsis of games and players that shined are below.
In the first game seen of the day, the Memphis Cobras took on Select's 17 year old team. This game was very competitive throughout but the Cobras got the victory in a somewhat mild upset thanks to the shooting of 11th grader Orlandus Martin.
Sampson Carter MVP
Akeem Anderson
Memphis Pacers
The surprise of the day may have came from one of the smallest players in the tournament, Virgil Davidson. The 5'6 guard with the heart of a 6'4 player went at the much bigger guards from Birmingham scoring 18 points connecting on 4 three-pointers in the 1st half. The Storm just had something that the Cobras didn't have, Demarcus Cousins.
On Sunday at Lemoyne-Owen, the championships were held. In the 15's the Memphis Sparks captured their age groups title beating the Memphis Hoopers. The Hoopers put in a valiant effort but they just didn't have enough depth with a few players missing. The 17 and under championship was easily the most exciting of all the game on Sunday with the Pacers taking on Memphis Select and Reggie Fondren. The Pacers also had a new player on Sunday with Sampson Carter being added to the already potent line-up. Both teams came out like the Memphis summers, hot. The teams combined to make 7 straight shots. The Pacers built a 7 point lead but Select stormed back thanks to the scoring of Fondren, and Craigmont big man , Akeem Anderson. 6'6 junior Ben Norfleet also played a key part in Select's game. They were up 5 with 4 minutes remaining when things started to get a little chippy with Joe Jackson and Fondren going at each other. Jackson did what he normally does though, knocking down a big 3 with, 38 seconds to put the Pacers up and for good. Select's last second shot came up short as the Pacers won the 17's . 901PrepScoop would like to congratulate both the Pacers and the Sparks for their wins and wish each team that participated good luck the rest of the aau season. Below is list of players who played well during the tourney.
