Snowden Stuns Craigmont In Comeback Win
Herron’s Everywhere In The 3rd Quarter

For the first time this year, I got a look at the Craigmont Middle School Chiefs and for the Snowden it was almost a look that they would want to forget. With 6th grader Naba Echols scoring 13 of his team’s 26 first half points, the Greenies had two things to worry about in a second half. Would Sam Craft come alive in the second half and could Echols continue to destroy their much bigger guards. The first of the two worries seemed to be coming true at the start of the 3rd quarter as Craft got a bucket and the foul to put his team up 9, 29-20. Snowden down 11 at one point got a huge lift from 6’5 8th grade big, Frank Herron. He was every where for his team, grabbing rebounds and blocking shots as Craigmont implored a box and 1 to take Snowden star Nick King out of the game. King would show his passing ability at the start of the 4th quarter to pull his team within 2, 34-32. As the game wore on, Snowden’s guards took unfavorable shots when it seems as though they should be going inside to their much bigger post players. With a 3 point lead, Craigmont decided to stall the ball with Snowden having to foul  with 1:26 remaining in the 4th. The Chiefs would hit one but would get a big break when the rebound would bounce over Nick King’s outreached arms allowing Craigmont to run more clock. With 50 seconds left, Coach Alexander of Craigmont would call a timeout to set up the inbound but Snowden’s prayers would be answered when they got a charge call during the inbound on Craigmont giving them the ball. The Greenies would appear to lose the ball under the basket but a Snowden guard would get the ball to King who would be fouled making the biggest basket of the game, a lay up and the basket to put his team up39-37 after he hit the free throw. Craigmont sill had a chance only down by 2 with 28 seconds left in the game but a quick try at a lay up would fall for the Chiefs as Snowden regained possession and the game as they would go on to a match up with the undefeated American Way Eagles in the city champiolnship on Wednesday. Nick King led all scorers with 16 despite a constant double team with Frank Herron getting 10 points and 16 rebounds for his team. Sam Craft had a team high of 15 points.
Girls: Lester vs. Bellevue
There has been a lot of talk on the message board about Lester’s girls so I decided to see what the fuss was about. Well, I will tell you.  Let’s start with 6th grader, Brianna Humphrey. She may perhaps be a top 10 scorer among her peers in her class. She can shoot the 3 or drive the ball to the basket and finish. Then we have 7th grader Javisha White. She is a shooter with a trigger just waiting to be pulled and from almost anywhere close to the 3. But she doesn’t just fire them up; she can hit them at a pretty good rate. Last but not least, Danterrica Brown at 5’7, she is the total package, nice handle, finisher and she’s plays great defense and her motor is non stop and she can score Even with her team up by nearly 30 the most of the game, she never stopped playing hard. The sky is the limit for Brown as she looks to be a d-1 player in the making. By the way, Lester’s record stayed unblemished as they move on to the city championship game on Wednesday, 45-15.
