Player Watch High School
Each team has that player that they will have to depend on if they are to have a successful season. Whether its a point guard or big man, some teams can't afford to have so so production out of these players.
Derrick Richards- (left) scoring point guard who can virtually get to the rim whenever he wants to with his speed and quickness. Richards and new pg Tre Payne will share responsibilites although he can score like a 2 guard if needed. He could be a lockdown defender if he wants to be.
Terry Leake- (pic right) one of the more underrated players in 16-AAA. He can handle the ball, shoot the 15 footer and pull down rebounds. Leake should only get better as he's only a junior. He must have a great year if the Tigers are to compete in the 16-AAA.
Patrick Lee- (pictured right) I don't know if there is better shooter in the area when Lee is on. Pull up or spot up, he's deadly and he's able to do all this witha 5'5 frame. Some question his size but don't his ability or its 30 for you and your team.
Adonis Thomas- 6'5 Small Forward c/o 11
Limitless Potential. I kind of doubted the freshman's ability to play on the wing but he's proving me wrong game after game. Thomas can shoot the long ball or put it on the floor and get to rim. He has a a nice running one hand shot in the lane that's very effective. He really doesn't look or play like a freshman. The thing I would like to see Thomas do, is become more aggressive on the defensive end. With his length, he should average a least two blocks a game. If learns to get on the boards a little tougher as well, the sky is the limit for this future D-1 player.
Daryl Marshall- 5'10 Point Guard c/o 10
This kid kind of gets overlooked by some of the other great player in his class but don't underestimate him. He always seems to be under control and plays with great poise for a player in his 1st year starting at the varsity level. Marshall's perimeter jumper made need a little refining but he could develop into a great point guard and possible top 5 player by his senior year
Bryant Reames- 6'2 Shooting Guard
Lausanne High School- Nice size shooter with a text book jumper who can score in bunches. He's not one of the bigger names in the area but Reames if proving game by game, including a 34 point outburst that he should be mentioned among the top guards in the city. Could be a fringe mid major type guy who could be a nice find for a team looking for a shooter/scorer with the potential to only get better.
Chris Downey- 5'10 Point Guard
Ridgeway High School- Leader would be a great word to describe Downey or floor general would be another way to describe him as well. He's the example of what a good pure point guard should be. He handles the ball, distribues well and plays pretty good defense on the ball. Downey looks like he has worked on his perimeter shooting as well. He can also get to the rim and make free throws when fouled. The only knock on Downey maybe his height but those looking for a college point guard may want to start in East Memphis on Ridgeway Rd.
Chris House 6'5 PF/Center
Kirby High School - Big strong physical kid who has a lot of potential and could be the best bigman in Memphis if he works hard. He's another player who doesn't know how good he could be. He's a bit undersized at 6'5 but it is very likely that he could grow another inch by his senior. Has a nice touch at the line and nice back to the basket moves. He's a pretty good rebounder and one of the best around Memphis and the best thing is, he's only a junior so he has time to learn. He needs to work on his 10-15 jumper and post moves. House is a top 10 player in the 2009 class in Memphis.
