PLAYER WATCH: Middle School
c/o 2014
James Prather- 5'10 - Power Forward/Center
PDS Middle School- big physical 4 or 5 player who can bang the boards and score with any player in his age group. The thing that may separate Prather from other middle school big men is his shooting touch from the perimeter. He has a great release and his shot will only get better as he get olders. Could be a Brad Miller-esque type player by his 11th or 12th grade year. He has great potential.

Chris Galvin- 5'6- Shooting Guard/Point Guard
PDS Middle School- very smart fundamental guard who plays above his skill level. Galvin shoots the ball well from the outside and he makes pretty good decisions with the ball. Once he gets his confidence up and realizes what type of player he could be, he could be a pretty good guard.

Tim Shaw- 5'6- Point Guard/ Shooting Guard
Germantown Middle School- Shaw was a pretty good guard last year but what a difference a year has made for the 6th grader. Tim has always been a pretty good defender, but his offense is catching up and catching up in a big way. He loves to get to the rim with the crossover dribble and he can shoot the 3 with confidence. Shaw has turned into one of the top 10 6th graders in Memphis.

Darrius Sorrell - 6'2 Power Forward
American Way Middle School- Reminds people of Ferrakhan Hall in appearance and some in his young game. Sorrell is very long post player who has a some ball handling skills and could develop into a 3 in highschool once he gets to the 6'4-6'6 range. He's a decent rebounder but should become even better once he realizes that he has to be more physical. Darius should work on his ball handling and play with more of a hunger. He has all the tools to be a top 10 player.

Derrick Watson- 5'7- Point guard/Shooting guard (American Way Middle School 2013)
Brother of the best sophmore running back in the state, Eric Watson also plays football to but basketball maybe his sport to stick with. Watson plays hard all the time and has a mean streak whick can be good or bad at times. He can get to the basket but he'll have to work on his shooting and ball handling as he gets older.

Eric Eason- 5'11- Center (American Way Middle School 2013)
Huge isn't big enough word to describe this player. With his size he could dominate games but he may have to get a little smaller. He moves pretty good for a guy 230 plus and he has nice footwork. Could be a Aubrey Phillips(Btw big man) or maybe even a Lewis Mccaster type if he works hard.

Nathen Cole- 5'10- Shooting guard (American Way Middle School 2013)
Two sport athlete who could be a top 10-15 type player with his talent. Hits the midrange jumper but loves to attack the rim. Arguably the best player on his team. Could be a great highschool player if continues to improve.

Toby Baker 5'9 Shooting Guard-Mus c/o 2012- If there is a better shooter in middle school than Baker, then I would love to see him. Quick release and a nice handle makes this 8th grader able to get his shot off against anyone. The thing that I like most about Baker is his attitude on the court. He reminds me a little bit of JJ Reddick because of his confidence and very competitve attitude. Whatever high school gets him may have a top 10-15 type player in this class on their hands.

What do all three players above have in common. They play in maybe the best youth basketball organization in the city, the Memphis WarEagles.

Tony Becton 5-9 (left) 2014 - MUS- SG  Becton is a natural athlete who may be the fastest guard in his class. He's great defensively shooting the gap for steals and finishing with the layup. If he works on his shooting, Tony is a top 5 player in class.

Nick Smith 5-3 (center) 2014 - American Way Middle- PG  Pure point guard who will make an immediate contribution to the Eagles this year. Smith is very smart guard always looking to find his teammates for open shots. Not the best athlete or fastest, but he knows the game and he get the job done.

Cameron Payne 5-7 (right) 2013 - Lausanne- PG  CPayne is a very talented lead guard who sees the floor well but, what separates him from a lot of point guards is his scoring ability. He shoots the 3 well and get into the lane for nice little floaters. Cameron could easily be the number point guard in this class.

Blake Johnson 5'6 (far right) Point Guard-Craigmont Middle School 2012- Very talented point guard who sees the floor as well as any player in the middle school making him who some is the best pure point guard in Middle School. Johnson already has nice size and uses it to be able to take contact when he breaks defenders down off the dribble. He can make the open 3 but he's so quick that he can virtually get by anybody and score or either kick to his open teammates for open shots. Johnson is most definitely one of the top 2 point guards in this class if not the best one.
