Meal 1
Summer has came and went as school got underway on Monday but for incoming freshmen like Cameron Golden it's a new year and a new start. Last year, Golden's team went undefeated and won the middle school state championship. He will leave behind a lot memories but most of all he says, "I will miss the coaches, we were like a family, if you needed anything they would be there for you". As he enters highschool his expectations are to play freshmen , junior varsity and varsity ball." I'm really not expecting much, its a new atmosphere and I will have to work my way into playing time". Just something for you to snack on, but in the next serving of "The Dish", its all Cameron. No editing, no rewording, just Cameron speaking his thoughts on his new life at Ridgeway. Stay tuned.

Cameron Golden Serves "The Dish"
The Dish
Welcome to the first serving of "The Dish" by 901PrepScoop's number one 2012 player, Cameron Golden. This year as a freshman at Ridgeway High School, 901PrepScoop will follow him as he begins a new chapter in his life as a highschool student and basketball player. This will be Cameron's thoughts about a new school, meeting new people and teammates and playing his first year on the highschool level and competing for many minutes on varsity. Sit back relax and let Cameron serve you, "The Dish".
Meal 2 (Sept 3rd)
What's crackin big world? My name is Cameron Golden. I am a freshman at Ridgeway High. The weeks I have attended I am enjoying it just a lil bit. I am sure I will get use to it. I have been hanging out with the roadrunner basketball team to get to know them better. These guys are winners. Hopefully I will be a part of that dis year. One thing I focus on more is my education. I will get all my work done before I play any sport. I have met many friends that have positive characters. The people that I am with are people that I need to stay with so that I make the right decisions. Alot of people have asked me am I Cameron Golden, and do you play basketball. I joke with them and say no, my name is lil dug and I play lacrosse. Then we laugh and I will tell them the truth. The guys on the team are cool to hang around and play with on the court. This year I plan on playing junior varsity and varsity. I plan to focus more on varsity than junior varsity. The reason I say that is because it is more challenging on the court, don't get me wrong, junior varsity has great talent also. My goal is to play varsity because everybody you play has talent and tha'ts the competition i'm looking for. Talk to you later
1.Melrose Golden Wildcats - Obviously the were the best team there. They played suffocating defense, at times seemingly having 10 players on the floor with their hands deflecting balls for steals. Chris Jones played well, directing his teammates to their spots on the floor and looking more and more like a point guard instead of a two guard playing the one. Nate Rucker maybe the Melrose’s version of Joey Dorsey. He was all over the boards, diving on the floor for loose balls and getting the best blocked shot of the day on seemingly easy lay-up attempt by a Covington player. Adonis Thomas looked great, scoring with the pull-up and hitting the running jumper running their University of Memphis offense. Freshmen, Devante Hampton, played well knocking down the 3 and looking very confident playing for one of the best teams in the city.  I saw some White Station’s players and they should be worried, they may have been watching the best team in the city.

2.Liberty Tech  - Size who needs size, when you played as disciplined a brand of basketball that there is around. As usual, well since their Double A days 2 years ago, they don’t have anyone standing taller than 6’4 but that doesn’t stop them from outrebounding opponents. They routinely out fought bigger players for rebounds and played tenacious on the ball defense.  They run their sets to a T even when with the third string players in the game. Rickey Williams and Marlin Dotson should lead their team, possibly to a state berth.

3.Covington - Played well in the first half of their game against Melrose only being down 7 at the half but lacking a true ball handler really hurt them in the second half of that game and others that they played. They simply don’t have anyone to handle the ball if a team presses. They have a couple of shooters but if they can’t get the ball, if won’t mean much in games.  Derrick Walker is their best player but he has to do too much and gets worn down during games driving. He could be their best ball handler but his job should be to score and rebound. D’Alvin Brown will help Covington defensively with his exceptional speed and knack for steals. They did however play 4 or 5 games so fatigue may have been issue for them. They don’t have a bad team, but they have to find a point guard.

4.Trezevant  Bears - Coach Harold Johnson is an animated a coach as anyone and his team will play off his fiery personality. They will be led by Antoine Cathey.  He is a big physical specimen who reminds a little of Pierre Niles in high school but without his scoring ability. He rebounds pretty well but he should dominate the interior with his size. They have a pretty good point guard and a scorer in Darius Whitson. Whitson is a much underrated point guard prospect who I think could play with any guard in the city. They still maybe a notch below some of the areas other double A teams because they don’t have a consistent scoring threat beyond Whitson.
Melrose Play Day

You know what time it is, the start of the basketball season is quickly approaching. Saturday was an opportunity for some teams to see where they are while one team looked to be in mid-season form already. Below are some observations from Saturday.
Liberty Looks Ready To Crusade Once Again (right)

5.Woodale Cardinals - Young is one word to describe the Cardinals but Coach Johnson will not let them use that as an excuse. He will expect a lot out of Marquis Wilson who is their best player and one of the pull up jump shooters around. Marcus Knighton can score as well but his main job will be to run the team and play stingy defense. Samuel Garrett could surprise but he has to become more aggressive and believe in what he can do. Tevin Lucas is a 6’5 junior with the potential to become a good post player but like Garret, he needs confidence and to play a lot more in which he should do. The Cardinals will struggle at first but don’t be surprised to seem them pull of an unexpected when or two.

6.Middle College Bulldogs - Newcomer Marshaun Newell looks like he will provide that third scoring option for Coach Nick Adams and possibly be their second leading scorer. Tony Bates had spurts where he looked like one of the best players in gym and Russell Polk was hitting his midrange jumper. Some teams don’t have any post presence and Middle College is one of them. They have young 6’2 post player but he did not play much so it looks like Bates, a guard will be relied upon to get rebounds again this year. Ike Griffith must provide them with some outside shooting as well. If Newell, Bates and Polk don’t have big years, they will not be able to compete with Manassas in Single A.

7.Mitchell Tigers - The Mitchell team looks different and boy do I mean different. Madracus Wade is now playing off the ball but maybe not for long however, they need him to get buckets.  Russell Hill must not be afraid to put it in the air because they need his scoring just as much as Wade’s. Liberty manhandled them on the boards in their first game and repeatedly drove past their defenders. Mitchell did show some fight at the end of that game so they did show some character. 6’6 junior Dale Lloyd did not play much either and they need him to play big this year to give them some size in the post. They have a lot of questions to answer before the season starts.

8.Oakhaven - Coach Milam and his team may have a long year. Reshaun Brown a 6’5 senior will do a lot for them but on Saturday he did not play due to unknown reason. They will struggle to score points. You want proof; they scored 9 points in the first half of their game against Covington.
Derrick Walker will be effective for Covington.
Potential D-1 Talent? You heard it hear first. (Darius Whitson)
