DAY 2 Afternoon Day 1 and Early Day 2 Coverage
Tigers Grind Out Win
After everyone had their turkey and dressing Thursday afternoon, it was back to Melrose for the MLK semifinals between Manassas and Craigmont. The Chiefs started slowly putting the always looking to score Tigers up early 12-4 on a Reginald Buckner putback. Craigmont's Robert Rodgers and surprising Andrew Jeffries matched threes to start the 2nd quarter. Jeffries would hit another from deep putting his team up 28-15 with 2:55 left in the second quarter. Terio Tubin of Craigmont made it 30-22 on a offensive rebound and two of the glass at the half. Rodgers and Roy McFagdon traded baskets in the 3rd but Derrick Richards ended the third 39-43, Manassas. A Tiger turnover and Chiefs Akeem Anderson lay up tied the game 45-45 with 4:50 in the 4th. Missed opportunities to score and turnovers haunted the Chiefs but they still had a chance to win it with 7.3 seconds left. Terico White's 3 went in and came out giving the Tigers a chance to face Nashville Christian in the Finals. The final score was 50-47. Terico White lead all scorers with 16 points in this low scoring affair. 3 Manassas players had 10 points with those being Andrew Jeffries, Roy McFagdon and Derrick Richards.

Day 1 and Early Day 2 Coverage
NACA over the Manassas Tigers
It was cold outside but the atmosphere was hot as the MLK Championship game was held on Friday night. Both teams faced pretty tough opposition, with Nashville Christian beating, Hamilton, Northside, Kirby and Liberty, while Tigers beat Craigmont, Mitchell and Wooddale. Former Ridgeway guard Martino Brock (pictured left) had his game face on hitting a 3 just 16 seconds into the 1st quarter. Manassas came out very sluggish until a McFagdon rebound and putback got them on the board, 8-2.
Clock trouble with the score keeper caused a little delay in the 1st seemingly giving the Tigers an everyone's against us attitude. 6'8 do it all forward Reginald Buckner started to to show his influence with a steal and a lay up to tie it 11-11. The Mitchell game's hero, Eric Atkins hit a 3 to keep the Tigers with Nashville Christian, 19-17 with 7:30 left in the second. A thunderous Cody Hatcher dunk and a jumper by James Harris put Nashville up 27-21. Manassas seemed to get their defense going with a few steals but turnovers really hurt them in the 2nd quarter. A Meiko Lyles off balance 3 made it 36-27 at the half. The 6'3 guard stayed hot with a jumper to start the 3rd. Buckner showed his range with a 3 of his own with NCA still leading by 8 with 7:10 left in the 3rd. The defensive minded Brock got a steal and was fouled on a lay up giving his team their biggest lead of the game at that point , 43-30. A technical foul was called on NCA but Atkins missed both free throws. Buckner got his team excited with a dunk but another and 1 by Brock made it 53-39 with 2:20 left in the 3rd. Atkins got on in the 4th hitting a 3 with 5:50 left to make it 59-55 with Nashville but Brock again proved he's one of the best guards in the state hitting another 3. Tigers guard Derrick Richards came right back with another 3 to keep his team alive, 64-60 with 4:21 left in the 4th. A little controversy at the table again and a huge 3 by James Harris made it 69-60 with 3:41 remaining. An Andrew Jeffries 2 made it 82-75 with less than a minute but a costly Tiger turnover sealed their fate, crowning Nashville the MLK champs, 84-77.
Manassas should not hang their heads as many thought they wouldn't make it to the championship game. The Tigers proved they are a team to reckoned with not in in Single A, but the entire city. Congratulations to Nashville Christian School and Memphis native Martino Brock for winning the MVP of the tournament. Austin Peay signee James Harris led all scorers with 27 to go along with Brock's 26. Buckner had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Atkins and Payne had 21 and 15 respectively.
