Mitchell Tigers
Coach Johnson has had a big smile on his face the last couple of times that I have seen him and if the end of last season was a clue, I know why. They went on an over 10 game winning streak getting back to the state when many said they wouldn’t win 15 games last year. They lost to Liberty Tech again in the championship game but the tables may turn this year. Already boasting maybe the area’s best trio in Darrel Neal, Jarvis Jones and Madracus Wade, the Tigers got even stronger by adding former White Station guard Eric Buggs. Eric is the fastest point guard in the state bar none and looks to have improved his jumper over the summer. Lewis “The Beast” Mccaster will do his usual dominance of the middle with nice post moves and solid rebounding. The Tigers wildcard may be Ken Torry. He is without a doubt one of the areas best scorers but many question his attitude at times. If he’s able to blend with the team and new teammate Buggs, He’s a 20 point a night scorer.
Armani Burdett, Leon Boddie and Donald Holloway will also be key contributors. Burdett is a sleeper who many don’t know about but from watching him at a camp this past summer. Holloway may be undersized Lewis Mccaster but he plays hard and will surprise teams with double figures on occasion.
One of the Tiger players told me they were going undefeated. I don’t know if that will happen but this could be a special year for the Mitchell Tigers. Mitchell is 901PrepScoop.com pick as the state champions.
