Melrose vs CBHS
Senior CBHS guard Alex Pressley came out hot hitting a three and short jumper to make tit 16-10. Unfazed by the rowdy crowd, super freshman Adonis Thomas, scored on a lay up to make it 18-12 entering the second quarter. CBHS cold shooting and rainbow 3 by Jones made 20-17, with the home team still winning but the Golden Wildcats would not stop fighting and eventuall gaining their first lead with 4:30 left in the second. Purple Wave big man Caldwell Starnes (pictured below) put his team back on top at the half, 33-28.
With a great crowd in attendance including WNBA player and former Southwest Tn guard Ashley Shields, and ex Tiger Leon Mitchell, CBHS faced off against the Melrose Golden Wildcats in the first hall of fame game of the season. Both teams got out to ragged starts combining for 6 turnovers in the first two minutes of the 1st quarter. The Purple Wave jumped out 8-4 before a lay up by Chris Jones settled down the crowd.
In the second half, it was Jones who came out hot with a 3 and short floater in the lane. Melrose's pressure seemed to mount on the Purple Wave forcing them into 2 straight turnovers as Melrose gained a 5 point advantage. The two teams see-sawed in the 4th before a huge rebound putback by Starnes and the foul to put CBHS up 57-55. Junior Chris Mason made a sweet move and scored the lay up with 6 seconds left but the Golden Wildcats could not get the time out called in time giving the CBHS the win. Starnes and Pressley has 15 and 14 points with Brad Luckett chipping in with 12. Chris Jones led all scorers with 18 points and Adonis Thomas was also in double figures with 11 points.
