Observations from the MAYB.
by Charles Lawson
It's official the school year has ended and now it's time for the summer but for the areas best basketball players, it's just the beginning. The Mayb took place over the weekend at various locations across the city with 3rd graders all the way up but 901PrepScoop followed the action with the 8th grade divison. You had your usual great talent in Baller guards Alex Anderson and Jamal Donaldson, River City Rage big man, Brandon Lewis and Blazer guards, William Woodfork and Martavious Perkins but their was one player not from Memphis who really impressed.
Xpress guard Josh Robinson out of Shreveport Louisiana looked like the best player of the 8th grade divison, knifing through defenders and hitting from long range. This player is not from Memphis but you have to give credit where credit is due. This young player will be a nationally known player before his 10th grade year. His team took 3rd place in the tourney beating the Blazers, 66-50. In the championship game, the Metro Bulls with Devontae Hampton took on Alex "The Answer" Anderson and the Memphis Ballers. The Bulls had a problem for the Coach Anderson's squad that they could not solve early as the Connor Payne hit 4 3-pointers for an early Bulls lead, 24-15. The Ballers would use a 14-4 run to close out the half, 29-28 thanks to a Jamal Donaldson 2. Down 5 with under 4 minutes left,Anderson did what good young point guards do, he led his team down the stretch. He hit a floater, hit Cordarius Shepherd with a great pass and hit the game winning free-throws as the Ballers took home the MAYB 8th grade divison championship, 56-55.
