MAM Christmas Tournament
Craigmont Vs White Station(9th Grade Championship)
38-28 was the score when I walked in the gym in the 4th quarter with Craigmont up comfortable but the tables turned quick and they were turned by former 901PrepScoop Rising Starz Camper Tedarrious Hodges. The 6’0 guard scored on 2 lay-ups, one dicing through Craigmont’s defense to make the score, 38-35. White Station’s press started to force Craigmont into mistakes including a huge turnover with 1:11 left. Hodges would score again to make it a one point game, 38-37 with 55 seconds left. The Spartans seemed to get all the breaks but they couldn’t convert at the free throw line. 6’5 Kordario Fleming would get a chance to give his team a 3 point edge but he would miss but White Station couldn’t hold onto the rebound. The Chiefs would be fouled again, this time taking another former Rising Starz Camper to the line in Robert Houston. He would make both shots to put his team up 3. White Station would have a chance to tie it with a 3 but they did not take that shot opting for 2 by Rodriguez Tucker but it was too late as Houston would tell his teammate to hold the ball and give his team the 9th grade division championship, 40-39.

Amercian Way Vs. ECS

Earlier in the day, I over heard a fan tell a coach, that the  ECS and American Way game would be close due to ECS having a lot of size. That almost was a true statement. 6’0 8TH grader, Jawan Johnson came into the game unconscious from the time he entered the game but, the Eagles only led, 17-14 with 5:47 left in the 2nd quarter. Kadeem Cathey, another part of their talented guard combination hit a 3-pointer to give them their biggest lead of that point but Johnson had just got started with his scoring. Johnson’s 7 points in the final 3 minutes of the game along with Kadeem  Cathey’s lay up off a steal by Larry Kimber ended the half, 33-18. Chris Hodges of ECS scored down low, to make the score, 33-20 but it was just too much American Way. Lorenzo Young’s bucket plus the foul would make the score, 39-20 at the 4:21 mark of the 3rd quarter putting their opponents down 19 for the largest lead of the game. American Way’s 19-4 run to end the first half was to tough of a hill to climb for ECS. A-Way would go on to get the win, 58-39. Jawan Johnson’s 26 points would lead all scorers with Lorenzo Young banging the boards with 12 and 14 points. Chris Hodges and Nourse Fox tied for their team’s lead with 10 points a piece.

Other games from the MAM Tourney
Ridgeway Vs A Maceo Walker
With under 1:30 left in the game, the score was tied thanks to a Malik Tunstall bucket driving to the rim but Darrius Sims of A Maceo was not ready to let his team lose. He would get two huge steals and convert both into point for his team to make the score, 41-37 with 30 seconds left in the game. He would knock down 2 free throws to make the game final and give A Maceo the win and a place in the championship game against American Way, 43-39.

Havenview Vs Snowden
Big time free throws by Nina Davis with 26 seconds seemed to deflate the Snowden Greenies fans but not so fast, a Snowden bucket and the foul with 14.7 seconds left would tie the score, 59-59.Game on the line for Havenview, you already know who the ball is going to, Davis.  She drove the ball hard, crossed over left and drew a huge foul with 6.4 left in the game. With ice in her veins, she would hit two but Snowden still had a chance. Snowden would fumble with the ball and not even attempt a shot to give Havenview the win and a championship matchup with Germantown on Saturday.
MAM Christmas Tournament
A-Way Blows Away The Jaguars
Could this have been American Way’s first loss of the year?  The A Maceo Walker Jaguars played the Eagles tight in their first meeting at the Jaguars home coming back from a double digit lead to only lose by 2 points to the undefeated Eagles. The stakes were a little different this time as both teams were vying for the Mam Christmas Tournament Championship but only one could win. Much like their game against ECS, the Eagles found themselves taking the Jaguars best shot. Darrius Sims got a basket plus a foul to tie the score, 10-10 with 1:48 remaining in the first quarter.  With the Jaguars up 4, 14-10, A Maceo guard Shakur Williams was hit with a technical foul with 12.3 seconds left that would cost his team the lead and momentum. Toderick Davis would find Joseph to put his team back on top, 15-14 to end the first quarter. American Way’s scorer, Jajuan Johnson hit a 3 to make the score 18-14 with 5:30 remaining in the second quarter as the Eagles looked to stretch out their lead. Justin Hunt of A Maceo would score on a rebound and a put back to keep his team around but most who had seen American Way knew that a run was coming. The Eagles would score 9 points to the Jaguars 2 as they would close the half, 33-21. The Eagles would go up as much as 23 points, 51-28 but the substitutions for the Eagles found themselves fighting off A Maceo down the stretch. The Jaguars had a chance to cut the once huge lead to 8 with 1:40 in the 4th prompting Coach Franklin to put back in his starters. This move would seal the deal and give A-Way the Mam Christmas Tournament Championship, 60-48.

Girls Championship (8th Grade Division)
What’s the knock on the Lady Tigers of Havenview?  Some say they rely too much on Nina Davis. Others say if it wasn’t for her and 6’2 Ebony Hayes, they wouldn’t be undefeated. The Lady Tigers faced off against a Germantown team that many thought could give the Havenview their first loss. Well, think again. Nina Davis would 26 points with Ebony Hayes getting 10 points to give Havenview the championship, 42-31 and a still untarnished record of 17-0.
