Craigmont Wins MAM Holiday Classic
Size, athleticism, speed and talent are all words that people use when talking about good teams. 3 of the most talented players in middle school are all on one team and they were on display Wednesday in the championship game of the MAM Holiday Classic.
Craigmont's trio of Cameron Golden, Robert Houston and Blake Johnson tested their undefeated record against county school Shadowlawn, after beating Snowden the night before.
Shadowlawn led by Chris Jones, beat American Way 54-26 to advance to the championship game. When needing someone to step up Coach Alexander usually can call on any of his 4 future D-1 players but on Wednesday night Golden was that player. The 5-10 8th grade shooting guard proved why he's 901PrepScoop's number 1 ranked player.
4 minutes into the second quarter, Craigmont only led by 2, 16-14. Craigmont would use a 9-2 run to cap off the half, 25-18 on a steal and lay up by Golden. Multi-talented Robert Houston would put his team up 15 on two straight buckets with 4:02 in the 3rd.
Shadowlawn would not lie down cutting the lead to 10, on a Jones lay up over the outstretched arms of Kordario Fleming to make it 36-26 with 1:40 left in the quarter. Golden would again end the quarter on a lay up to put his team up 12 going into the 4th quarter. A Blake Johnson two and another score this time on a tip by Golden put the Chiefs up by 19 and sealed the game. Golden would lead his team with 25 points to a 52-32 win and a 2008 MAM Holiday Championship. Houston would also play big with 17 points. Jones and Rodriguez Tucker were both in double figures with 14 and 12 points a piece.
