Meal 1
Summer has came and went as school got underway on Monday but for incoming freshmen like Cameron Golden it's a new year and a new start. Last year, Golden's team went undefeated and won the middle school state championship. He will leave behind a lot memories but most of all he says, "I will miss the coaches, we were like a family, if you needed anything they would be there for you". As he enters highschool his expectations are to play freshmen , junior varsity and varsity ball." I'm really not expecting much, its a new atmosphere and I will have to work my way into playing time". Just something for you to snack on, but in the next serving of "The Dish", its all Cameron. No editing, no rewording, just Cameron speaking his thoughts on his new life at Ridgeway. Stay tuned.

Meal 2 (Sept 3rd)
What's crackin big world? My name is Cameron Golden. I am a freshman at Ridgeway High. The weeks I have attended I am enjoying it just a lil bit. I am sure I will get use to it. I have been hanging out with the roadrunner basketball team to get to know them better. These guys are winners. Hopefully I will be a part of that dis year. One thing I focus on more is my education. I will get all my work done before I play any sport. I have met many friends that have positive characters. The people that I am with are people that I need to stay with so that I make the right decisions. Alot of people have asked me am I Cameron Golden, and do you play basketball. I joke with them and say no, my name is lil dug and I play lacrosse. Then we laugh and I will tell them the truth. The guys on the team are cool to hang around and play with on the court. This year I plan on playing junior varsity and varsity. I plan to focus more on varsity than junior varsity. The reason I say that is because it is more challenging on the court, don't get me wrong, junior varsity has great talent also. My goal is to play varsity because everybody you play has talent and tha'ts the competition i'm looking for. Talk to you later

“On The Wings” JT Inks With A-State
It’s never too late to congratulate Central Jasmine Taylor as she inked a 4 year scholarship to Arkansas State. The 5’11 guard/forward will be a great asset to the Wolves as she could see time at the 2 or the 3 positions. She will give them scoring from the perimeter and a player who will do what it takes to make her team better. Look for big things from Taylor in Jonesboro next year. Congratulations Jasmine and look forward to her talking about her decision in the next edition of “One The Wing”
Known as one of the best scoring guards in the city, James did not disappoint as she scored almost seemingly at will in the 3rd quarter bringing her team back from a 6 point halftime deficit to go up 45-44 with 1:20 remaining. She would score 8 points in a row to put her team up 51-46 as the Central seemed stunned by her appetite for scoring. Central went ice cold and found themselves down 8 with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Rebounds started to go the way of Bartlett as ball slipped out of Central’s hands on several key possessions. Down 6 with under 3 minutes remaining, possessions became very important as Coach Bray employed her team to press Bartlett’s guards. What would happen? A steal and a lay up by freshman Danielle Ballard and she wasn’t done there. She would hit a 3 to make it 57-56 and draw a charging foul on Bartlett to give the possession back to her team. This would lead to a Jasmine Taylor 3-pointer before James would tie it on free throws, 59-59 with exactly 1:00 minute remaining. After a timeout by Central, they would move the ball around crisply before Mimi Ajanuku calmly sank a short J with 18.4 left in the game. The Lady Warriors would get a chance to ice the game but two free throws would be missed giving Jasmine James one last chance but her sideline jumper would hit the backboard to give Coach Bray and her team their first win of the season, 61-59. Central was lead by Mimi Ajanuku with 15 points. Two other players chipped in with 8 points a piece. Jasmine James was worth the price of admission as she scored a game high 44 points.

Lady Trojans Wear Down West Memphis
Millington’s Defense Shines
If Friday is an indication of how good the Lady Trojans can be, watching them play will become a must see for hoop fans around the city but West Memphis was here to spoil their opening night. They had a D-1 signee of their own in Jazmine Gordon who committed to Wichita State and a 6’3 center in senior Cambril Jeffries. The Lady Blue Devils kept it close for awhile and they were only down 18-15 with 5:15 in the 2nd quarter but Millington’s defense started to impose it’s will on them as they began to force turnover after turnover and ended up being up 23-15 at the half. West Memphis would get it as close as 4, 23-19 on a Stephanie Robinson and 1 but their tendency to give the ball up to Millington hurt their chances to stay with the talented state contenders. Millington would use a 10-4 run to end the 3rd quarter and go on to force West Memphis into 17 turnovers in the 2nd half alone as the Millington would win it, 53-37. Jasmine Newsome (left) was on her game scoring 26 with Ashley Robinson getting 10 points and 11 rebounds.
