FACE OFF
In a very action packed 1st quarter the Spartans jumped out 16-12 thanks to a 3 by freshmen Andre Hollins who finished with 11 points for the game. The sophmore scoring machine (Jackson) had 11 points in the 1st quarter alone and continued his scoring at the start of the second scoring on a floater over the Kirby defense. The Spartans would go on a 14-4 run including a Julian Burton lay up for a 39-26 lead. A great one on one move by Malcolm Burton gothim hyped up but Jackson answered right back with a bucket. Both teams best players went quiet for the rest of the quarter combining for only 10 points sending White Station into the locker room up 45-34 at the half. Kirby's heart and soul Curtis Lee made his presence felt in 3rd getting back to back and 1's to cut the Spartan lead to 7, 47-40. Burton of White Station got his lay up tipped but it some how managed to go down with 6:10 left. White Station went up as much as 11 again in the 3rd but with basketball being a game of runs you just knew the Cougars would fight back. Kirby went on a 12-2 run of their own and got their 1st lead of the game on a Rockeem Henderson spin move who scored 8 points in the 4th quarter. Kirby would go up 6 befoe Jackson got a lay up to make it 65-61 with 3:50 left in the 4th with Kirby still ahead. The two teams traded buckets including another great move on a cross over and the foul by Burton(Kirby). The Spartans tried but the Cougars would not relinquish the lead they worked hard to get giving Kirby another impressive win, 79-74.

As I told you previously, Burton and Jackson did not dissapoint. Burton was great for his team scoring 28 points. Henderson was also in double digits with 17 as was Lee with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jackson led all scorers with 33. Julian Burton added 13.
Burton Outduels Jackson For the Win
By Charles Lawson
It was another big game for the Cougars who have went 3-0 in the last week including a victory of previously undefeated Ridgeway as they traveled to what some fans call the Station. This was also a battle of two of the area's premier guards in Malcolm "It aint neva o ova " Burton and Joe "Don't hurt em" Jackson and these two did not dissapoint.
