With 0.2 seconds and the score tied 56-56, senior guard Chris Price stepped to the line to win it for his team but I'll get back to that in minute.
Rucker's lay up tied it in the second quarter but the Cougars went up 5 on a steal by junior Mario Bass and he layed it up to make it 18-13, Kirby. The quick and strong Malcolm Burton began to assert himself with 4 straight trips to the free throw line making 5 of 6 for a 23-17 lead. Freshmen Ocatavious Ellis of Whitehaven got 2 to close Kirby's lead to 2 but big man Curtis Lee took over the 3rd quarter. Lee showed his tenacity on the boards and even hit a 3 for his team after Whitehaven's Nate Ollie got his team within 4. The senior forward had 7 points in the quarter before Terry Leake closed the 3rd with a short jumper in the middle of the lane. The Tigers clawed back and even took the lead for the first time in 3 quarters on a another dunk by Rucker to make it 46-45, Whitehaven.
