The lady Green Dogs of Snowden were also in the state championship game but unlike their boys counterparts they had a little more success on Saturday. Considered the number 1 eight grader in the city by some, Danielle Ballard showed why she will be a major player on the prep scene for years to come.

D-Ballard is a rising star
The eight grade guard willed her team to victory but it wasn’t easy. Snowden was up 7 at one point but their opponents the American Way Eagles were not going to just give it to them. Eagles had two big time future players of their in Cornelia Fondren and Catrice “Big Baby Golden and they wanted to win just as badly. Ballard got an and 1 and converted the free throw to make the score 35-29 but Fondren was there to answer her with a three point play of her own. She would get another 2 at the 2:27 mark in the 4th quarter, with her team only down by 3, 40-27. Catrice Golden got a lay up with 55 second left but her team was still down by 3. Snowden’s girls just simply made the plays down the stretch and got what many players wished they could have a state championship.
With her 11 points just in the 4th quarter, they defeated the American Way Eagles. Ballard led her team with 22 points in the victory. Fondren also played well leading her team in scoring.
