Let's Get It On!
Lausanne's Marquinton Brown (picture above) and senior Bryant Reames both played well but their team may struggle a bit with Brown really being a 2 guard but playing out of position at the pg spot. He excited the crowd with his incredible athleticism on a one hand dunk and the foul. Reames has a textbook jumper but he can also get to rim. FACS will compete most nights with teams but with Vince Barnes now gone, it may be hard for them to reach last years win total. Catholic will really rely on senior guard Josh Wilkerson to score more even though he averaged 23.8 per game last year. MUS even without, the transferred Ferrakhan Hall, will be very competitive as they hung close with Briarcrest in their scrimmage. Those overlooking them may come away with a loss to this well coached team. Briarcrest didn't play up to their standards but still showed even without suspended Elgin Lee that they will be a force. Johnny Wiliams makes them a favorite for the private school state championship. The team that raised 901Prepscoop's eyebrow was ECS. They may have the biggest frontline of any team in Memphis with two 6'8 guys and 6'7 280 plus football player Barrett Jones. Teams trying to double down will get a good dose of John Milewski's shooting.
The question is, which one of these teams will step up to the challenges of Briarcrest, CBHS and St.George's. That answer remains to be seen but it should be fun to watch this season.
CBHS and St.George's were no shows but that didn't stop the acton as the private school jamboree went down at MUS monday. This was an opportunity for some fans to come out and see these teams lace em up and compete for the first time against other teams that they will face during the regular season.
A couple of coaches were on in the house from city school's, most notably Jermaine Johnson of Melrose and star freshman, Adonis Thomas. The usual players stood out in their respective 1 quarter a piece exhibitons but there were definitely some surprises. St Benedict could give some teams a run behind the play of 6'7 Zach Ricketts. The West Point signee looked great, with better than average shooting and showing a compassion for the game like no other.
