Barham Trey Keeps Central Away

Junior Hits Winning 3

When Christian Brothers went into the half up 34-21 on the Central Warriors, everyone expected the Purple Wave to walk away with a win Westwood transfer Chris Carr hit a 3 with 3:07 in the 3rd to cut the lead to , 42-35 before Drew Barham (Pictured above) hit a long ball to put his team back up by double figures. Tim Peete hit a jumper off the glass to close the third, 50-42 with the Purple Wave still leading. The super sophmore would hit a 3 on the opening possession of the 4th to make it 52-45 as Cental's defense started to show its self in the game.

The Warriors got 3 steals to score 4 points including a Tyler Stone to Masceo Harmon pass for 2 that tied the game, 54-54. The Warriors would go up 6 on a 3 and a Jermaine Hollimon 2, 60-54 with 2:00 minutes left in the game. Christian Brothers wouldn't panic though, as senior Martin Mitchell calmly sinked a 3 to make 60-57. The Purple Wave guard would then tie it on a jumper at the free throw line over Harmon to make the score 61-61. Peete hit a leaning jumper with 7.5 seconds left seemingly giving his team the win but the brothers had one last chance. Mitchell drove to the middle of the court kicked it to Barham who pump faked Peete and hit a 3 to win the game at the buzzer 64-63, as Christian Brothers won in very exciting fashion.

Hero Drew Barham led his team with 20 points and teammate Alex Pressley had 13. Peete and Stone were in double figures with 21 and 12 points a piece.

1st Half Deficit Too Much For Cardinals

Only up 8 on the Cardinals, Elliott Williams decided to go to work in the second quarter. The Duke signee scored 11 points in the quarter including a high flying tip dunk that sent the fans in attendance in a frenzy and put his team up 25-11. The Cardinals would be outscored 20-7 as they went into the half down 23, 37-14. Whatever Coach Scales told the Cardinals at the half must have worked. Doubling Williams every time he touched the ball or sending someone at him, the Cardinals got back into the game. Daryl "Boo" Marshall and Lemelvin Davis combined to score 16 points in the 3rd even getting within 10, 43-33. Lawrence Bowers (pictured left)drove baseline and dished to Eric Folk for a lay up that ended the third quarter., 53-40. Marquis Wilson cut the lead to 6 with a jumper, 62-56 with 3:30 in the game but the Gryphons with stood the run and pulled the victory out 70-61. Elliott Williams led all scorers with 24 poinst but only scored 6 in the second half. Wilson had 21 and Davis got hot in the second half with 16.

Roadrunners Contain McDonald

The final matchup of the day pitted the Roadrunners of Ridgeway High against the Briarcrest Saints. Ridgeway which had overcame an 11 point lead the night before faced another tough team and one of the best juniors in the country, Leslie McDonald. Senior leader Chris Downey got his team going with a great behind the back pass to Sampson Carter (pictured left) for an early 13-7 lead. The 5'10 point guard would hit a 3 to end the 1st quarter 16-9. McDonald picked up his second foul early in the 2nd as the Roadrunners looked to secure a nice lead. Carter hit right corner 3 with a hand in his face to go up 29-20 at the half. Spencer Green of Briarcrest hit a 3 to make the score 30-25 but the two teams traded baskets and that would not work with the more talented and deep Ridgeway squad Briarcrest would cut the lead to 7, 42-35 but that would be as close as they would get. 6'8 Corderio Macklin's dunk and 1 put the finishing touches on the game as the Roadrunners won it, 60-49.

Sampson Carter led his team with 19 points and playmaker Downey chipped in with 12. McDonald led all scorers with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Elgin Lee had 11.
