Hollins And 1 Sinks Liberty Sails
As White Station found themselves down 30-26 at the half, things had to go better than they did in the 1st when they found themselves down 11. Jackson was playing well with 16 points but someone else had to step up and provide a lift for the Spartans. Senior forward Ferrakhan Hall’s offensive foul on his team’s first possession epitomized his night before junior guard Kendall Anthony of Liberty dribbled baseline probing for open teammates before hitting the 5 foot jumper for the 32-26 Liberty lead. It was warm in the gym but White Station was cold starting the quarter 0-4, turning it over back to back possessions as Liberty went up 10, 36-26 with just under 5 minutes left. Senior Daryl Wright scored on a put back before Joe Jackson hit a 3 to end the quarter, 38-33. Anthony started the quarter again for his team with a basket for a 41-34 lead but remember when I told you that someone would have to step up. Aforementioned Hall, no try junior Harry Green. Riding off the momentum of his all region play, he buried two huge treys, one tying the game 43-43 and the other coming with 4:30 left in the 4th quarter with Liberty clinging to a one point 47-46 lead but the heroics belonged to a sophomore. Andre Hollins who had 11 points in the game got 3 of the biggest points in his young prep career with 1:05 left. As Jackson missed a 2 point attempt, Hollins went up and rebounded the miss among Liberty’s players, put it off glass plus the foul as White Station took the lead, 53-51. The next possession for Liberty, a charge call giving the possession back to the Spartans pushing Liberty into foul mode. They would foul Hollins, who calmly knocked down 2 free throws but they were only up 4,55-51 with 30 seconds left. Wouldn’t you know, next possession for Liberty, a turnover on the pass this time punching Station’s ticket to Mufreesboro after two Jackson free throws, 58-55.
Leading the way as usual, Joe Jackson with 32 points but the hero of the game was Hollins with 11 points. Liberty’s season comes to end with Tarius Johnson leading the way for them with 19. Kendall Anthony had 19 second half points.
