DJ Jeffries doesn’t need an introduction, he’s one of the most talented players in the country in 2019. The future McDonald’s All American has put together the best season of his high school career and has a chance to end his junior year in special way on Friday, winning a state championship for his high school, Olive Branch. A big decision still looms for the 6’8 super athletic wing who is in the midst of a recruiting war in the SEC and one likely to see a decision sooner than expected for him. I recently spoke to Corey Jeffries, DJ Jeffries father who told me it’s coming down to a trio of schools for his son’s services. I’m sure there are a lot of suitors but at this point, ” It’s pretty much coming down to Kentucky, Miss State and Alabama right now” said his father but he also said that the school at this point who was showing the most interest, Coach Cal and the Wildcats.
I think for Jeffries right now, it’s just the process of deciding what’s best for him as a player and it’s nothing that should be taken lightly, especially a decision that could change his life. Corey said, “We’re dealing with it as it comes, soaking in knowledge of the business of basketball from Keelon (Lawson) and others who’ve been through the process”.While he’s not in a rush to make a decision , he did say that DJ is leaning strong towards one school and a commitment could come as soon as the summer for his son who plays with Team Penny on the Nike EYBL circuit during the summer. For those hoping to see where Jeffries lands, you could will get your wish just a little sooner than expected which should make one of those coaches in the 3 schools he’s deciding from very happy in a few months.
