In the biggest upset of the year in middle school, the Lester Lions season ended last night in a loss to West, 48-44. Relatively speaking it kind of a fore gone conclusion that they would meet Bellevue in the state sectional title game but West had other plans for them. It just goes to show though that anything is possible in the playoffs and now you have to take West seriously as a contender. Back to the topic though, who is left in Large and Small Schools?
Germantown Middle will take on Schilling Farms on Thursday at 7:20 pm
Havenview vs Ridgeway on Saturday at 5:40 pm- This will be their second time playing each other this season. The first time, Ridgeway beat them at Havenview but things are different now and I think both these teams are playing much better than they were at that time. Havenview must find a way to slow down EJ Smith and try to neutralize Kristian Spencer. Could that be where Simeon Powell steps up like he did against Germantown? For Ridgeway, they can’t let Sylvester Ford be big near the rim, scoring, rebounding everything. They can’t let Micah Mickens get going offensively as well. The Tigers will need a nice game from 6th grader William Carver on the ball against Smith pushing up and trying to make things difficult for him. I think Travis Campbell’s physical nature could be in the mix in this game as well.
On the girls side, Colonial, Arlington and Kate Bond are left. Colonial plays NorthEast today. Arlington will play Kate Bond on Saturday at 3:00 pm. Westside plays a tough West team tonight at John P.Freeman.
Lowrance vs Bolivar East on Thursday at 6:00 pm
Bellevue vs Martin on Thursday 7:20 pm
